“They told me what a session costs and what to expect before I booked, in writing.”
Common questions
Everything you need to know before starting
01Do you take my insurance?
We are out of network with insurance plans and do not bill Medicare or Medicaid. You pay us directly, and you can ask your plan to reimburse you. The How fees work page has the details.
02What is a superbill, and can I use it?
A superbill is an itemized monthly receipt you can send to your plan, which may reimburse you; your plan decides. It carries a diagnosis code that your plan will see.
03What is a Good Faith Estimate?
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of your costs before care begins, and we give you one. If a bill is substantially higher than the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.
04How much does it cost and how do fees work?
Your fee is given in writing before you book, and it depends on the clinician and the length of the session. A limited number of reduced-fee sessions are held each month.
05Can I use an HSA or FSA card?
Many people do. Your plan sets the rules, so check with your plan administrator.
06What happens in the first session?
We talk about what you want from therapy, what pace feels right and what you want to leave alone for now. You do not have to describe what happened. Your clinician explains how the work goes, and what it can stir up, before you agree to it.
07How often and how long are sessions?
Sessions run 50 to 90 minutes depending on the work. Many people start weekly. Your clinician sets the pace with you, and there is no promised number of sessions.
08Are you licensed where I live?
Our clinicians are licensed in Illinois. For video sessions you must be in Illinois when we meet. If you live elsewhere, we are glad to help you look for a clinician in your state.
09What do I do in a crisis?
Call or text 988, any time. In an emergency, call 911. This practice is not an emergency service, and we do not monitor messages around the clock.
10What is confidential, and what are the limits?
What you share is private. The limits are set by law and include a risk of serious harm to you or someone else, and certain reports the law requires. Your clinician explains them at your first session.
11Can you see my teenager?
We work with adults, 18 and older. If you are looking for care for a teenager, we are glad to help you find a clinician.
12What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for 24 hours' notice to cancel or move a session. Your fee and cancellation terms are given in writing before you book.
